Recently there was a quite interesting article in a US newspaper about marketing to the gay and lesbian market in regions where the general population is relatively conservative.

The thing I really liked about this was a very true comment made by a gay person they interviewed in the article.

'Businesses who try to reach the GLBT community, Mr McFall said, 'need to recognize that some efforts can offend gay people. "Don't say 'I support the alternative lifestyle,' because to us, it's not an alternative," he said. "Before you ask us for our money, get to know us a little." '

Very good advice for all marketing - gay or otherwise.

Gay marketing can happen in major gay metropolises like New York, London and Sydney, but lesbians and gay men live everywhere and good gay marketing strategies realise that and create effective lesbian gay market strategies that will reach lesbians and gays no matter where they live.
