Today has been a busy one. The morning starts with a long and most enjoyable forthcoming Radio Netherlands feature program about, well, me and Out Now and the growth of gay PR gay advertising and gay marketing. That is a nice way for anyone to start their day.

Then I had a phone and email interview about gay weddings and gay travel, tourism and gay honeymoons issues with business media in South Africa.

From Dutch to Afrikaans, only a minimal language shift but a half a globe away, and all within the space of only a few hours. The day felt very fine.

And then I read this that homophobic anti gay laws are sought to be reinstated in Russia.

It really disturbed me.

Even though I found myself saying during my morning Dutch radio interview that things like Ikea's new US gay inclusive mainstream cable TV advertising campaign, are a sign that the corporate sector embracing gay consumers reflects a social evolution, and increased acceptance of gay and lesbian people, I also then have to reflect on the fact that in Russia, and even in EU member states like Poland, gay Pride parades are routinely abused and attacked with bricks and violence.

And there lies the very worrying counterpoint that really can depress an otherwise successful day of gay marketing media developments at Out Now. I did mention, during my interview, the American Family Association (AFA), and their cheerleader role in promoting homophobia, and even potentially motivating violence against lesbians and gay men, but let's just leave THAT conversation for another occasion.
