I spent the past couple of days in Berlin at the International Tourismus Bourse, or ITB, which is the world's largest travel trade show.

The scale of ITB is unbelievable, with every travel destination, hospitality brand, and tourism service seemingly represented there. Just being there is an amazing experience - the show features prominently as highly effective PR for the global travel and tourism industry, and for the host city of Berlin, in media coverage on most of the major local media.

We had a few client catch-up meetings while we there.

It was also impressive to see the diversity and geographical breadth of new destinations now opening up to lesbian and gay travel.

We made quite a few new travel industry connections which was great.

There was a gay and lesbian travel display again this year -- that included PlanetOut and other gay travel media, tourism and destination players. It is always a nice feeling to see their distinctive pink gay travel bags moving throughout the exhibition space and then on into the Berlin metro system. Very visible gay PR.

Several local gay tour operators also took their own exhibition space which was good to see as a sign of the strength of the German gay travel industry, as well as the global tourism brands also at ITB.

One thing that all the research shows is that so many gay people love to travel -- and ITB Berlin shows that the travel industry is waking up to the true scale of the gay tourism market now.
