The gay and lesbian market for gay weddings, and gay honeymoons, continues to grow.
At Gay Market News we reported on Spain's first gay marriage almost two year's ago.
Now comes news that the city of Barcelona is home to Spain's first gay boutique catering for gay men that want to dress to impress for their full marriage nuptials.
The store, called By, opens today.
Some people in the news media see 'gay weddings' as a matter of prurient interest, and some of the media coverage of this issue sees news media outlets use images that trivialize or sexualize their news coverage of the gay marriage issue.
They seem oblivious to the fact that this story is not just a great piece of PR news - and free publicity for the gay store in Barcelona in question - the true news story here is actually the real stories behind the thousands of gays and lesbians that meet, fall in love, and then formalize their relationships with a gay wedding, as a symbol of their love.
Barcelona as a city has a long and proud gay history, and it is a logical next step to see such a venture as the new By gay marriage store for gay male grooms opens in Barcelona.
We can only wish the store, and its customers, great success for the future.
Here is an extract of some news media coverage of the By gay weddings shop in Barcelona:
The shop, called By, which bills itself as the first in Europe to cater only for homosexual men, will open in Barcelona this week. Made-to-measure suits, some inlaid with 22 carat gold, will retail for between €1,500 (£1,000) and €6,000.
Apart from traditional bridal suits, also on offer are a collection of rings, boxer shorts, bathrobes and other accessories by a collection of mainly Spanish designers for the big day. It will offer clients a tailor-made service for anything to make their weddings as special as anything which heterosexual couples might enjoy.
Santiago Porrero, the owner, said: "We saw there was a gap in the market for gay men though we are not only aiming for homosexuals. "It is called By because each person can have a unique creation by one of our designers. There will only be one of these suits in the world."
The shop, in an area of Barcelona nicknamed "Gaycelona" because of the large number of businesses which target the homosexual community, is to open on 30 May. Its inauguration is timed to coincide with a fashion show called Barcelona Bride Week.
Same-gender marriages were approved by the Spanish parliament in this once staunchly Catholic and conservative country in 2005. Adoption by same-sex couples was also legalised at the same time. Mr Porrero, 32, a Mexican who graduated from the prestigious Esade business school in Barcelona, said that after the law was approved, he decided to launch the business.
"It was obvious that gays, who also marry, needed their own bride shop."Bookmark us if you would like to check back here, or subscribe to our RSS feed, and we will keep you updated on latest gay marketing, gay market research, gay PR and gay advertising developments.
