You do have to wonder about politicians. They will say and do what they like until the election is in train, yet then, suddenly, they are only pro-everything and miraculously anti-nothing.

Malcolm Turnbull's inner-Sydney seat of Wentworth is one of the most gay electorates in Australia and Wentworth is expected to be won by Kevin Rudd's Labor Party if the Howard government loses the election.
The John Howard legacy of anti-gay sentiment from Howard's mate Bill Heffernan attacking an out gay High Court Judge -- the eminently respectable Justice Michael Kirby, coupled with almost 12 years of anti-gay 'nuances' emanating from John Howard and his Australian government are coming back to haunt Turnbull as he struggles to hold his seat.
Australia's gay community vote against John Howard is now becoming recognized internationally.
LGBT media is increasingly reporting on the gay community position of the Howard government and its current lack of gay community equality policies.
For example, US gay LGBT media reports that "Howard has refused to consider either marriage or civil unions, although lately he has suggested if his government is re-elected he might consider some rights such in the areas of pensions and health".
Even The Australian mainstream newspaper -- long a John Howard supporter -- has described the current situation as a 'rising tide of panic' for the John Howard Liberal coalition government.
John Howard seems likely not to be the Australian Prime Minister in one month from now.

But to paraphrase a Prime Minister Australia never had -- former Governor General Bill Hayden -- it seems increasingly likely that even a drover's dog could beat John Howard at the November 24 election.
