TOPICS: Anderson Cooper. Gay marketing. Gay market news in review. Coming out. Anderson Cooper outed as gay by PlanetOut (NASDAQ:LGBT) as being a gay celebrity.The notion of gay celebrity and gay celebrities coming out has been a constant throughout 2007.
Whether it is the rise and rise of openly gay Ellen DeGeneres -- or the low key and quite dignified coming out as gay by Jodie Foster earlier this month -- there has been no shortage of interest by mainstream media in who might, or might not be, gay.
Questions keep being asked -- is David Beckham really gay? Answer: not likely.
Is Rosie O'Donnell gay? Absolutely.
How about other supposed gay celebrities, such as Anderson Cooper of CNN?
The answer is, according to PlanetOut (NASDAQ:LGBT) media's Out magazine, yes -- but Cooper is not 'officially' out as being gay.
Having said that there was a rather intriguing piece of video that surfaced where Anderson Cooper and his news colleague Erica appear to share an in-joke over Anderson Cooper's sexuality.
Does it matter whether Anderson Cooper is gay, or not?
We say it matters naught, or perhaps a little. There is an argument that for lesbian and gay youth who may be struggling with coming out issues, it can be a positive to see a high publicity celebrity such as Anderson Cooper coming out as gay.
For the individual concerned though it is clearly a strong matter of personal choice, and we contend that whether or not gay celebrities wish to come out may be lessening in relevance as social acceptance of gay and lesbian people continues to grow.
Whatever side of the issue you are on, one thing seems sure -- it seems unlikely those wanting to know will be much deterred from trying to find out which celebrities are gay and which are not.

Why is it that the Gay Gestapo feels like they have to torture celebrities publicly? Would you treat your brother or friend in such a fashion? No! You'd respect their rights to privacy. What next, everyone must wear pink shirts on Friday or face fines from the fashion police? It's a free country for a reason, and you are not entitled to arbitrarily take someone else's freedoms away. If you can't respect that, move somewhere else.
